Sound Production

This is the soundtrack I have decided to use for my short film. As stated previously, my inspiration has been 80's horror. Because of this I have chosen a soundtrack that sounds electronic and produced using synths and dital software. There is a clear distinction from this and the music found in feature length horror films today. I chose this track because I think it will fit perfectly with what happens in my short film and varies in intensity.

Additionally, I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to use a sound box and a microphone to record sound. I edited the film first and then got the film on a portable device (i.e. an ipad) and then watched the footage and acted out what was happening i.e. making coffee. It would have been more effective if I had the sound box at the time of filming however it worked out well as I was able to succesfuly record the sound that matched perfectly with the scene.

Additionally, I used youtube to find certain sounds that i would struggle to record properly, for example natre sounds at the river with birds and cars in the background for the opening scene. I had to use premiere to edit the sounds together and vary the volume of each as the soundtrack would still be plaing over it. I found this to be very time consuming and confusing.

Sound production is very important for a short film/ most media products as it can be used to aid your products genre. for example, my soundtrack built tension which was good as my film has horror/thriller elements. Additionally, extra soundtracks are something that most people dont notice but completely change the realism and immersion audiences can gain from your film. Here, I tried my hardest to match sounds that were really in the area, with the purpose of continuity and realism.
