Inspiration

Sin City (2005)
Sin City gave me inspiration because I really like the style of the film. Sin city is based on a graphic novel which is very stylised and dramatic, with the film being colour graded in black and white with small elements of vibrant colour to draw attention to different characters/props/locations. This was brought to life in the film. It was shot using green screens so almost everything in the film is edited in post production, buht this element adds to the 'comic book' style. Since watching Sin City, I have been inspired to do a similar colour scheme, with my film being in black and white with pieces of colour to signify different things about a character, for example, a sexualised woman wearing red lipstick which would stand out due to the contrast ov everything being in black and white

This is a poster from the second and newest installment of the 'Sin City' films.

This still frame is from the opening to Sin City. The artistic style of the film is shown in an interesting way here, with an extreme long shot, denoting a female character wearing a red dress. The background in black and white gives the city a sinister atmosphere. The buildings are very dark as is the ground and the sky which denotes dirtyness and connotes the state of the city and the possible themes that could be encountered in a city that is riddled with crimes.
The black and white also connotes the genre of the film as it is very dark and mysterious which connotes to me, that the genre would be a thriller/crime.
I feel as though this links to my theme of Horror/Thriller as lighting/style of filming is very important to convey the correct message to the audeince. I plan to experiment with this technique with my film.
Dredd (2012)
Dredd is also a film based on a comic series but this is completely different style to 'Sin City'. This film as it uses colour in an interesting way. Dredd uses 'Super Slow Motion' which allows the camera to capture more light then the human eye can see. An example from an image below is the still image of the woman splashing water, the still frame has clearly been colour graded to make it more bright and colourful, but the fact that it was filmed in super slow motion allows for some really picturesque scenes which are interesting to look at. This technique is used alot in the film during the use of the fictional drug 'Slo Mo' - The super slow motion with the high satutrated colour grading makes the audience feel as though they are also under the influence and it is really interesting to watch.
I would also like to experiment with colour grading with using this kind of high saturated colour as I have a semi-professional camera and access to professional editing software such as premiere pro, trherefore i think i would be able to create an effective style of filming.
